Studio Restauro - Arte Liutaria
Studio Restauro - Arte Liutaria is a violin workshop located in Palazzo Calciati,
an 18th-century palace in Via Palestro 1, in the center of Cremona, Italy. The
workshop is dedicated to providing our clients with the type of personalized
service they deserve. The workshop has become a local meeting point for
violinmakers and musicians and is commonly known as "Studio Restauro"
or the "Restoration Studio".
Jens Gosta Johansson
Jens Gosta Johansson's many years of making and restoration insure that
you will receive service which meets the highest standards of our craft. He learned his craft in Cremona
and was head of the repair department at Kurosawa violin in Tokyo. Before
opening Studio Restauro he restored fine violins at Hans Weisshaar Inc. in Los Angeles. Jens has
a reputation for treating all
clients honestly and fairly as they are always his top priority. Most importantly, he listens, and that means he will find solutions
that are tailored to you and your instrument.
Palazzo Calciati
Palazzo Calciati, the home of Studio Restauro, arose on the area of the
antique palace of the Marquis Rota. Francesco Rota, a priest, was the owner of
the palace until his death in 1720 when it was passed on to his nephew, Cesare
Crotti. Count Cesare Crotti bought numerous small houses surrounding his palace
to build a new residence more spacious than the Rota palace. The small houses
were demolished to make place for the current facade (built around 1766) facing
Via Palestro and Via Cazzaniga. Beautiful frescos by Giovanni Manfredini (see
photos on the left) are present in two of Studio Restauro's three halls.
